This six part documentary series by Adam Curtis is one of my favourite documentaries ever. I think that all his work is brilliant but this one is like an amalgamation of all his previous works into one timeline of the worlds economic superpowers and the rise of technology.

Adam’s attempt to explain why the critics of Donald Trump and Brexit were unable to offer an alternative vision for the future leads him down a rabbit hole where the main topics are individualism, collectivism, conspiracy theories, national myths, American imperialism, the history of China, artificial intelligence and the failure of technology to liberate society in the way that technological utopians once hoped it might.

To be honest it’s quite a sad, tragic and bleak documentary in my opinion. It explores so much history up to the present day and then paints quite a dystopian image of the future that we inevitably seem to be heading in.
